Read this book for bookclub. This is the BEST bathroom book or if you are super tired but want to at least read 500 words of something. The essays are inspiring, thought provoking, entertaining, and at times, laugh-out-loud funny. This book inspired me to write my own, "this I believe" essay...but still searching for what I would write about. Anyway, highly recommend! Some of my friends and family will be receiving copies for Christmas! This was enjoyable. It was a refreshing and well-represented sampling of American personal beliefs. I especially enjoyed three essays. One was of how an otherwise selfish, overworked, and unkind bachelor found love, service and concern for others by caring for his new dog. Another was of a man's belief in fatherhood as he and his wife (who couldn't have any children of their own) adopted a newborn from China. Finally, one was of a woman who is her family's self-designated 'celebrator'. She talked about how no one understood why she worked so hard and stressed out so much to throw big parties and Christmas celebrations for the family. She came to realize for herself and explain to others that it is how she shows her love for them. It reminded me of Wendy :) She is our family's designated celebrator, and for that matter, the relief society, the neighborhood HOA, and the anyone who joins us for the holidays.
