About book The Witch Of Hebron (2010)

I really liked the post-apocalyptic feel of the first book, A World by Hand, because it explored an idea of what the life we are living now could lead to. But the geography and sociology underlying the first book were entirely absent here. The characters were unbelievable, and most importantly this book DID NOT feel post-apocalyptic. Honestly, this book could have been set in the 1600's with a few changes. Blah. I have always loved Kunstler's books, but I am now resolved to only read his non-fiction. This was a chance find in the library. A post apocalyptic tale- not your usual everyone wandering from place to place looking for food and shelter-type, rather one where the people seem to have managed the transition from their "before" lives, and are now farming and producing what they need. Somehow they have revived old skills and are living without power, surviving on their produce and wits. However, along with the relentlessly practical, several of them seem to have a touch of magic- hence the Witch of the title. A quick, easy read, though I found the device of having each chapter about a different person in rotation rather annoying, and thought it broke up the flow of the story.

Do You like book The Witch Of Hebron (2010)?

Not as strong as the first in the series, but it's still a must read if you loved the first book.

A good book, but I thought Kunstler could have taken the premise of the book a bit further.

Ok magic and more magic. Still it's a bit of fun (unless you are trans).
