The first book was good....but the second book was...AWESOME ARE YOU KIDDING ME THE ENDING WHEN KESTREL GOT CAUGHT HAD MY HEART BEATING LIKE A PHYSCO WITH A DRUM OH MY AND KESTREL WAS GREAT SHE REMEMBERED TO GIVE THE MOTH AND TOOK THAT SLAP LIKE IT WAS NOTHING but why cant kestrel and arin just live happily ever after....favorite quote that had me going CRAZY : kestrels dad saying "you broke my heart" OHMYGODBnssiowaknzznakkamaAGHHH Thank you to NetGalley for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. The Winner's Crime begins right where The Winner's Curse ends, with Kestrel engaged to the prince, and Arin is now Governor of the Herrani. In the first book, I connected more with Arin than Kestrel, but in this one, I really felt for everything Kestrel was dealing with as she prepares for her wedding which will make her the future Empress. All the political intrigue of court and the Emperor's evil games has Kestrel becoming more and more unsure of herself which is a side of her we've not seen yet. I like this softer, more vulnerable version of Kestrel. The most endearing part for me of the entire book is the friendship that slowly evolves between Kestrel and the prince. I almost started rooting for them as a couple. Now Arin, on the other hand, becomes dangerously obsessed with Kestrel to the point of being so distracted by her that he seems to miss the obvious. I didn't much like this version of Arin.I grew a bit bored through the middle of this book as the scene is being set for what I'm sure will be an epic ending to this series. But I do understand the need of it all.But that ending... Oh my..!! Way to rip my heart out, Ms. Rutkoski! There is no way possible I'll be able to not grab book 3 the minute it's available to see how our star crossed lovers fare.
