2.5 really. it's not horrible, but it's kind of... weak. it bothers me that it has some great key points (the way the engagement was announced! the fortune games! the love triangle!) but none of these were really explored and did not fulfill their potential. as a result, the relationship between the main characters ended up being very... unremarkable. it's funny, because it's frequent on these romance novels that the hero has a very possessive streak and thinks things like "she is mine! i'm the only one who can make her happy!" and i've always wanted a book where the guy was more like "well, maybe she really likes someone else, maybe i should let her go" and this novel does have that, but i feel like... it was not written properly. so the whole romance just felt... lacking.maybe if she had given more time (and challenges) for the fortune games, so emma and blake could have had more time to know about each other...i don't know. So, as oopsies go, having your engagement announced to a duke (especially if you're in love with someone else) is a pretty darn big one. Lady Emma Avery is in that position, so she should know. A wallflower, Emma has actually been dubbed one of "London's Least Likely." In her case, she's been labeled least likely to misbehave. So when the Duke of Ashbrooke decides that he needs the respectability that this engagement will bring, Emma is roped into a house party that she'll never forget.Overall, I really liked this book and can't wait for the next one but there was a LOT packed into this book. Just a little too much going on and a courtship that was overly dragged out. But fun.
