It's pretty rare that I don't finish a book these days, especially when it's for book club. But, after 112 pages of Victorian Gothic bullspit, I just couldn't continue and don't care to find out what happened to Nathan or what happens to Maddy or Jane and her strange affliction. Sorry, Strangers in a Strange Book Club peeps, I'm giving up on this and switching to Red Rising by Pierce Brown instead. I didn't hate this back as it seems Jean and Dan did. I didn't love it. I wasn't rushing to pick it up, but not dreading it either. Basically, it just was. The characters didn't interest me that much, the plot was mildly interesting. At first, I liked the narrative style of introducing a plot point as if everyone knew about and then flashback to explain. That got old quickly, though. By the middle of the book, I thought I had missed stuff before realizing I was about to hit a flashback. I'm not sad that I read this book. I'm not excited I read this book.

I abandoned this book 50 pages in and read the last chapter instead: that was enough!
