A rather interesting take on the Beauty and the Beast fairytale - the 'beast' this time wasn't some horrible physical disfigurement, but rather a psychological one, where emotional scars had rendered the hero cold and seemingly uncaring. Admittedly he was really lacking in self-awareness and his plan to seek revenge made very little sense, as the 'beauty' of the story eventually pointed out to him. Still, I found it rather enjoyable. I only wish there would have been further insight into their future together as a couple, and in those of the secondary characters - particularly Elise and John. A good re-telling of the Beauty and the Beast story to get it to work without magic. Unfortunately it follows the same overly-meek female in love with the "I'm not good enough for her" lusty male that follow pretty much the same pattern in all of her books. Some of the males are more brooding than others, but the females in all of her books are pretty much interchangeable.Alas, I am still a fan of her, what I call, "completely clean trashy novels". Seriously, nothing more than kissing happens in this one (or any of them) even though they are married. I just really wish she could give her female characters some backbone and spunk, and give the main characters dialogue and events to develop a stronger relationship. She even describes their physical features the same! Every character - every book! Are there no blondes or redheads in her imagination? And more plot - please?Enough ranting. Now I'm off to read her next book.

A fun version of Beauty and the Beast with no magic, set in my favorite era. How could you go wrong?
