This book centered around Sarah as she prepared for her daughter's wedding. Memories were triggered, and I felt that perhaps this is this last book about the group of ladies who were part of the "Elm Creek Quilters." The memories went back in time and filled in what had happened to many of the women. The book takes place after the death of some of the integral members of the group, and it was a compilation of short stories. The one thing tying the stories together was that these were Sarah's memories at the time of her daughter's wedding. The title of this story and the flyleaf description are both misleading. This book is not about the making of a keepsake wedding quilt for a beloved daughter. That's simply a device that brings an eighteen-volume series to an end. This is the final book in that series. Set in the year 2028, the wedding quilt is a minor character in this wrap up that "ties" all the threads. The lives of the Elm Creek Quilters are brought to a harmonious conclusion. This book is for those who read each installment, who wondered what became of each character, how their lives worked out. It gives the happily-ever-after a dedicated reader would be pining for.This is my first "Elm Creek Quilts" novel...and it won't be my last. I thought I'd read The Quilter's Apprentice, but none of Sarah's nor Sylvia's story is familiar to me. I don't know that I'll be propelled to read the entire series, but I am intrigued enough to want to know more about the quilters' beginnings. I am definitely more curious about quilts--the stories they tell and the dedicated craftsmanship they inspire.
