About book The Warrior Ethos (2011)

Steven Pressfield presents ideas as related to the Warrior mentality, but mostly with references to Sparta. It is a fast read - only 90 pages, and it does offer a great jump-off point. However, it falls short in that it really just delineates a hand full of ideas without ever getting into too much depth.I would recommend it, but it is more of a survey than an in-depth exploration of the Warrior Ethos. This is a loosely organized book highlighting the musings of an author struggling with the meaning of honor and the warrior pertaining to another work (The Profession). As such, I found it very provocative and meaningful as he revisits lore, history, and the things he took for granted to discover what the Warrior Ethos meant to him. Despite his caution that this is for service members, I believe he succeeded in a dialog that is relevant to all. I'd highly recommend this short read to all.
