About book The War To End All Wars: World War I (2010)

I thought the informational value in this book was very good the entire book gives you the reader the details of how the war started and how it was fought. It also tells you of how the newly made weapons modernized the battles fought. The creation of the machine gun made it easier to defend a point you wanted protected. Artillery was also just invented, artillery would be used to destroy convoys and would create damage to the trenches where the enemy was hiding. Most of the war was fought in trenches. Propaganda was used against all sides. Even entire empires collapsed as a result of the war. The turning point in the war is when the British invented the tank at first it was obsolete but after improvements it is what was used to break through German defenses. Overall I thought the book was very well written. This is actually a very good nonfiction book, and has lots of interesting facts. Russell Freedman is well known for his nonfiction books, and he's actually won a Newbery Medal in 1994 for Lincoln: a Photobiography, a Newbery Honor each for Eleanor Roosevelt: A Life of Discovery in 1994 and The Wright Brothers: How They Invented the Airplane in 1992, and a Laura Ingalls Wilder Medal. This book would be great for anyone really interested in WWI and battles, but unfortunately I was not and only read the book because I needed to for a genre study on the war. I would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone wishing to learn about the subject.
