In this volume, someone is tracking the group and he is a member of a community that welcomes our little band of survivors with open arms.I was surprised at how much I liked this collection. There wasn't much action. But the writers did a fantastic job with the introduction of the new community. The tension from this new plotline was palpable and every time I turned a page I was wondering if the hammer was going to fall. This plotline is also an interesting way to wonder how characters would react if this plague was ever resolved. I have to applaud the illustrators as I thought this collection was their best work.I am looking forward to how this community plays out and the ending is great as it sums up the character Rick beautifully. He has unbelievable street smarts and his whole character arc has been a pleasure to read. It's potentially difficult to appraise each volume of Robert Kirkman's zombie series because the story is so long and complex. In "Life Among Them", the protagonist Rick and his weary band of survivors find themselves invited to a gated, safe, "normal" community. Both the newcomers and the longtime residents are suspicious and mistrustful of the other. Then, on the last page of the volume, Rick makes what looks like a monumentally stupid decision - and this coming from a character who's already shown signs of mental breakdown. As is true of all good serialized fiction, you have to know what happens next.The volume continues the strong characterization that's propelled the series since the beginning. Charlie Adlard's art, with its American and European influences, is good, sometimes very good, produced on a relentless, grueling schedule which would make most cartoonists blanch. He's especially good at drawing flora, another trouble spot with many cartoonists.

Pretty good.....really a filler volume. Something must be happening in Vol. 13.
