As with most short stories being released these days by the likes of Berry & Lee Child, this was a solid filler to tide fans over between full-length novels and give somewhat of a lead-in to the next novel. There's so much about the history of civilization in our world that remains mysterious, and I greatly enjoy the stories that Mr Berry creates to fill some of the holes left by the passing of time. His books are fast-paced and engaging reads, and this one was no different. I'm glad that I'd lost track of the timeline for release of his new novel, because I'm able to delve right into it now that I'm done with this one. Cotton Malone is summoned by the Queen of England to help her discover who is after the throne. Her son has no interest nor ability to lead the kingdom, and her grandson seems to be the target of an assassination plot, led by a terrorist. Treachery is rampant, in the royal family and the intelligence service. As usual for Steve Berry, there is a lot of British history integrated too, involving Arthur.
