About book The Treachery Of Beautiful Things (2012)
It is beautiful. I love the descriptive words used, they really made the imagery come alive and made it, well, beautiful. For the story part, I think it was a 3.5-4. There was a lot that went on and some people may get impatient with it. I kind of did but it you really look as it as a journey it seems to help. I thought that the revealing parts (the parts where you finally get to know the truth about what's actually happening) was a bit brief and a little anticlimactic. Such as when....*SPOILER* Jenny found out that Jack was the "green man". I think the part that was really a let down for me was their "romantic moment" the morning after Jack saved Jenny from the Nix. Okay, so they talk, they started kissing and having a passionate moment (and Jenny really seems to like him), then Jack reveals that he is the green man (which Jenny already knew a bit before that happened due to Puck telling her) and she said she doesn't care. Then- I don't know I guess I just don't like that one minute she's into him and all "Oh, Jack!" then she immediately just forgets all that after he tells her that he's the one that took Tom in and gave him to the Queen. I mean I thought she would understand since he doesn't have control over being the green man and she really did like him and seem to want to be with him. But I guess Tom's absence did make her life hell....Ahh whatever. *END OF SPOILER.Regardless, I still really liked the book. It was very interesting and captivating with all it's mythical elements and such. If you're into that kind of stuff, then you might want to pick it up. You'll may also want to pick it up for the beautiful wording that just made the whole world in the book come alive. 2.5It was a struggle to finish this. There wasn't anything particularly lacking in the plot or writing, and over all the concept was interesting, but something in this story just failed to grab me. I just wasn't feeling any of it: Jenny, Jack, the queen, the romance... it all felt really meh. I think perhaps this is a personal taste, but I just found the book a little boring. I definitely think others might love it, but it wasn't for me.
