We begin the next book in the series as Erec Ulysses Rex returns to New Jersey. He had been away for months doing quests to become the next King of Alypium, where magic is known and practiced. Erec has missed his busy adoptive family. He has especially missed his best friend and secret crush Bethany. A stolen kiss has him hesitant to write a response to the letter she has sent him. She is in the castle at Alypium but is having strange urges to go to Baskania. Thanatos Argus Baskani is the Shadow Prince who is after the Great Secret, which will direct him to the Final Magic. Erec has cloudy thoughts that appear in times of crisis, that help him stop bad things from happening. Once before he had a cloudy thought and pretty much turned into a fire breathing dragon. His most recent cloudy though brought him to the realization that Bethany was in danger. And he was correct. She has been taken by Baskani. Erec must return to the Kingdom of the Keepers to rescue Bethany, but he won't be going alone. His family will endure this adventure with him. Erec must visit with the Fates to see if they can help him figure out a way to save Bethany. Of course, like any adventure to save a damsel in distress, the task ahead will not be an easy one. There will be only one way to save Bethany, the steps that Erec must take will be extremely challenging. These steps will guide him down his path to becoming the King of Alypium. He must go to the Nightmare Realm where no one has ever returned from. Readers will not have a clue as to what will happen with Erec. As a result, young readers will be turning the pages and follow along with Erec. At times they might even hold their breath. Kinglsey has done an excellent job offering spine tingling adventure that boys and girls will love. Title:Erec rex #4 - the three furies Author Kaza KingsleyPages 576The book takes place much in alypium, a magic city with a golden dome that keeps the weathere perfect. It also takes place in part in underground aorth and "otherness", where the monsters live. Erec rex is the main character. He is destined to be king of alypium, but he must finish twelve quests first. in this book, he finishes his fifth and sixth quests. He also must rescue his friend bethany, who supposedly holds the secret to immense power. The main issue in the story is that Baskania is trying to get immense power, but he will destroy the world with it.(By accident, supposedly) Erec is trying to stop him while still doing his quests. Baskania also is trying to free the three furies, powerful beings, who are locked in tartarus. The book is told in the third person. I liked that, because I couldn't imagine Erec telling the story about himself. It would take away all the suspense, because you would know he made it. That's another thing I liked about the book, that it was very intense. You never could know if Erec would make it. Something I didn't like about the book was the dialouge didn't sound very real. They would often say "did not" instead of didn't, and no one talks like that anymore. I believe that one theme of the book is that Loyalty to your friends is important. Erec shows this often, as he goes out of his way to help his friends, especially when he rescues bethany. The intended audience is probably teen-age fantasy lovers. The book is clearly fantasy, with magic, dragons, and many references to greek and roman mythology. The greek references make the book very unique. It uses many greek elements without making it a second Percy Jackson. I thought that this book was amazing. I could barely put it down, even to eat dinner or go to sleep. I definately reccomend it to anyone who loves fantasy
