About book The Three Doors Trilogy #1: The Golden Door (2000)

I love all of Emily Rodda's books. She's created this whole new universe that I love to live in for the short while that I'm reading. This book exceeded all of my expectations. It's got action, magic, mystery, etc. I love the characters and how realistic they are. Weird thing about me: I read this in 2011, and then in 2013 I was watching Thor when Loki came on for the first time and the first thing I thought was, "Sholto!" It took me about 20 minutes to remember who Sholto was, cos I'd finished the trilogy so long ago. I've recommended this to so many people, and I really hope they all read it and love it like I do. With all kinds of allusions to the monsters and villains we know and loathe from the Deltora series, The Golden door was a great follow-up read for a long time Rodda fan. The world that she created was both new and familiar, starting off with her sticking to the "young boy from a town heading off into the jungle with a companion" beginning. And while there were similarities to The Forest of Silence, the city of Weld felt satisfying different from Del. There were points in the story, however, that pointed towards Rodda copying bits from other entries in the Deltora canon. I found myself rolling my eyes and predicting with confidence how the story would end. Surprisingly enough she shook it up; veering from the path I assumed was being taken to a great, nail biter, ending. Well done.
