I'm going to carry this book inside me a long time...from the caregiver role now to the inevitable care-needing dependence on my children and caregivers later. I hope I will be as kind and insightful as Lorraine...and will have someone like Lorraine to see me out! Quotes I loved from "The Sweet By and By": ".....But as Mama always says, 'I don't care who you are, Sick and Old are comin to see you whether you invite em or not."Also..."If you ever want to feel full in this life, you're gon have to ask if you might be made for somethin bigger than yourself. And when you can answer that, the only other question is what are you gon do about it."Good story and wisdom about the importance of dignity and indignities of growing old. How I wish I had read this when my mother was in her last days at the nursing home.. This takes place mostly in a nursing home and the story is told from 5 different points of view - including two of the women who are actually residents of the nursing home. It definitely isn't the type of book I would normally pick up - many thanks to the book club at the local library!The story was both sad and sweet and definitely an eye-opener. What I found most intriguing about this book the entire way is that it's written about the personal lives of 5 different women and yet the book is written by a man. Well done Mr Johnson!
