I had to read this book for my French class, and I actually quite enjoyed it. I think I might have even given this book five stars, but I feel like I missed a couple of things because I read it in French (and my French isn't that good). 'Le Magasin des Suicides' also know as 'The Suicide Shop' in English, had (in my opinion) a very unexpected ending and I'm still not quite sure how I feel about it. I am a big fan of black humour and this book is black humour at its finest. A friend passed the novel on to me, not exactly recommending it (her praise, if I remember correctly, included the phrase: "at least I finished it in an afternoon") but the back blurb intrigued me and I spent the first two thirds of the book with a crooked grin on my face, glad I'd claimed this book from the giveaway pile. The last third, however, I did not enjoy. I'm not sure I could say it fell apart. Too much of the same, maybe? Something just didn't rub right, though. And while it ended in the only way that it could possibly end, there was something off about the resolution as a whole that kept me from singing the praises of this books from every mountain I could find.
Do You like book The Suicide Shop (2006)?
One of the more interesting and enjoyable books I've read in a long time...
