Here the spook's apprentice moves to Ireland for a year and fights a bewildering mixture of monsters from folklore and imagination. First there are jibbers, creatures rationalised as ghosts trapped by a witch's spell. Second, there are the "Celtic witches" who follow the Morrigan (a medieval god figure). Finally, third there are "goat-magicians" who follow Pan the god. Later we read about Cuchulain who has a sword made by Hephaestos. It's a confusing mix-up of mythology, and it has to be fairly contorted to make it all fit together with the older Greek and English material, but for now the structure is stable again. The most interesting thing that comes out of The Spook's Destiny is the recreation of "The Dark" from hell into a land like purgatory which is made of many different realms. In all of them time moves faster and mortals begin to forget things, but they are not all evil. This is interesting because it is very similar to the way the medieval Irish conception of the Otherworld influenced the Celtic tradition with the invention of Purgatory, and the existence of spirits between heaven and hell. The book "The Last Apprentice Rage Of The Fallen" have a very surprising ending. It was surprising when Alice killed the chickens and ate them. For example,"Alice held a dead bird in each hand. She'd been eating them raw,and her mouth was covered in blood(pg.363)I can infer that after the Fiend had tortured her she has started to go to the dark side slowly. She is drifting away from the light. Therefore that was why the ending was so surprising.
