I received this book for the purpose of review.I LOVED this book! I received it by UPS, opened it and thought I would look it over and maybe start the first page just to see what I was in for. Well, I couldn't stop. I dropped the other book I was reading and couldn't stop picking this one up over the next few days. So, wholeheartedly I am giving major kudos to this book and what it opened my eyes to.Vint Virga is a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine specializing in behavioral medicine. He works with all kinds of patients, big, small, tame and wild. He helps their handlers and owners deal with problems that an animal may be having from medical, physical, environmental or psychological factors. He goes through many different areas where humans and animals connect with one another and how our souls are very much alike. He moves through connection, sensitivity, mindfulness, responsiveness, expressivity, adaptability, integrity, forgiveness, presence and what lies beneath. With every chapter he relates the story of a patient or some other story that ties in to that heading. In each he shows how the animal and human are relating to each other and their environments and how animals can teach us so many things if we would just take the time and the presence to pay attention. Virga draws lots of beautiful conclusions from his studies about what we can learn from the lives of animals. And he confirms what most pet-owners already know: animals have thoughts and feelings, souls and personalities. I wanted more science, more facts, more case studies and specific examples of answers and solutions and cures to the problems Virga has encountered. Still, this is a fascinating read for any animal lover.
