It lost momentum somewhere nearing the end. Such a waste, especially because the start was very promising. But I think the book is still a worthy read, because it taught me that the context in which someone finds himself in is maybe more important than trying to pull oneself up by the bootstraps. Personally, it reminded me that who I am today is the product of my environment, starting from when I was a fetus up until now. But the book also stresses that even if you were born and raised under circumstances that are not too conducive to personal development, you can make a change. Put yourself into an environment that forces you to change. I think it's quite an empowering lesson to learn.PS if you ask me, I don't really believe in the science used in this book. Some data suggest that there has been some suspicious cherrypicking going on. But I think the book is still worth the read if only for the new perspectives it tries to convey. Don't let the specialists steer you away from this book!The book is most definitely written for non-specialists in the field, and gives an overview of the topics handled in VERY BROAD STROKES. If you're a trained psychologist, I wouldn't read this. If you're a non-specialist with an interest in sociology, psychology, or maybe even business, behavioral economics or politics, I'd recommend the read!
