About book The Snow Queen (2014)

I'm creating a new category of audiobooks based on this book: ones I'll enjoy listening to while I'm cooking or driving, doing other things. The language is so lovely, but can I bear to truly follow all the Brooklyn-ness of it? More beautiful, insecure, introspective men spending their narration agonizing about sex and aging and Catholicism and George Bush? I do not believe that I can. Give me more mysterious apparitions, please. Give me more of Beth doing anything but dying heroically of cancer. Give me more than this passive speculation about exes and the beauty of one's body and longing after one's brother or brother's and friends' partners, if this is to be a book about love. This was a book I listened to, mainly while walking, and found I could zone out for long stretches without really missing much. Some of the language was beautiful, but I didn't find the book all that engaging. The characters seemed like more or less the same people from BY NIGHTFALL, who I thought were incredibly self-absorbed. It seems to me most of Cunningham's novels' characters inhabit the same shabby-chic New York environment with their artistic sensibilities and their trendy drug habits. I'm not sure how many readers care about that milieu. I'm kind of tired of it.

Do You like book The Snow Queen (2014)?

I gave up on this book. Got about half way through it and felt it was going nowhere interesting.

I could not get to the point where I found any of the characters in this book interesting.

Wordy, wordy, wordy, about creeps I never got into. Not my cup of tea.
