About book The Smile (2008)

The Smile is not really what I expected. I thought Leonardo would be more of a main character in this story and I would have liked it better if he had been. No, this was more about a young girl falling in love and facing the fact that in her lifetime, preteens married widowers like a couple of months after their wives died. Yet, I got swept into the romance and was bitterly disappointed in the end. Frankly, I lost faith in people for a second there and I couldn't understand why girls were treated like cattle. I am happy she found some happiness by the end of the story, but I was really hoping for a different ending, the ending I'm sure most readers expected after reading the description of this book. I liked the story and the romance was amazing! I guess this is just one of those great romances that leave you crying in the end. Interesting backstory for Mona Lisa. I actually want to read up on anything that we know about the real inspiration for this famous painting. I loved getting to learn a little bit more about that era and area.Warnings:Sex--There is some discussion of the topic, particularly when the main character ends up on the street where some boys taunt her; it is pretty clean though.Violence--When the city goes crazy there are some reports of violence, but you don't see much.Drugs--None.Language--Clean.
