I gave this book five stars based on the information it provides and the courage and selflessness of the author in writing it. As a mother and a teacher, I felt pained and angry that her mother wasn't more aware that something so dreadful was happening to her daughter. The teachers who turned their heads shoulder much of the blame for what happened. I can't imagine standing idly by while a student was obviously in distress. It was frustrating to me that Theresa's ordeal went on so long without someone noticing or offering to be that savior she had so hoped for. I admire how she was determined to make something good out of the evil that was perpetrated upon her. Her story is a testimony of the miraculous healing which can take place when one's trust is placed in God. This book was not easy to read, but then the hell she endured wasn't easy, either. She gives invaluable information in this book about the problem of human trafficking even in the United States and how it can go undetected unless people become more aware of the warning signs and are willing to speak up. Its been a while since ive read a 'Misery Novel', I used to read them all the time after a child called it trilogy and sold. I pulled all nighters reading the above as I could not put them down.I was really shocked, horrified, disgusted, etc, definitly not for the faint hearted, overly sensitive type. Now and again I like to take a break from fiction,these always seem to get me out of a reading slump. Its not often I still get shocked, appaled, disgusted as I first was when venturing into this genre, as you become more ammune to the sick individuals in the world. Ive seen a few films on human sex trafficking, which were all shocking for me, however to read about it from a 15 year old girls perspective was so emotionally raw, makes you wish you could be in the room at the time with an ak47, yes I could easily go to prison for these pimps. It is not just a memoir of the terrible things a race of people did, but how it could happen to your niece, granddaughter, daughter, cousin, mother, friend, sister etc. How girls end up in these hopeless situations, and how hard it is to get out again. The threats these criminal scumbags use, mental, emotional and physical abuse to scare girls and women into submission.Imagine Cinderella instead of cleaning all day long because she's forced by her ugly sisters and replace it with 3 bullying brothers forcing you into doing sexual favours for strange men, for free. This is slavery at its worse. This is an important read, I believe all females should be made aware of true stories like this. I myself can relate having been through a little of what Theresa has been through. There is light at the end of the tunnel, and no human being should have to go through this and suffer in silence.
