This is the second book in a series about Lancaster County Amish couple Merredith (Merrie) and Luke Stoltzfus. I do not understand why this series is broken up into such short books, other than they would make perfect TV episodes as they are written, with the perfect cliffhanger at the end of each book.In this book, Luke leaves by bus for Indiana just before Merrie confirms her pregnancy with the midwife. At a bus rest stop rest room Luke is viciously mugged, beaten unconscious, and robbed, clear down to his clothes and watch by a drug addict on the run. . The mugger assumes Luke's identity and takes his place on the bus. Luke is left for dead in the restroom. The bus is involved in a fiery crash with a tanker truck and all passengers die. Merrie and her inlaws are heartbroken, not knowing that Luke is lying comatose in a hospital. Just as one of Merrie's former suitor's returns to Lancaster County and he pays Merrie a visit, she begins to have severe cramping...One of the things I enjoy most about this series is the glimpses into these Amish people's lives, what makes them tick, and seeing that like everyone else, they are imperfect people, struggling with some of the same things that the English struggle with--pride, hurt feelings, stubbornness, doubting their faith, questioning God....and yet living their faith tothe utmost--supporting each other and family in time of trouble, sticking to principles, even at great risk to themselves, and trusting and surrendering to God.! oh, my heart simply breaks for Meredith and for Luke. Meredith must struggle with both tragedy and joy and will she ever have Luke to share her life with again? I don't want to "spoil" the book, but I will say that I have been hanging on the edge of my seat as I read. The volumes, I realize, have upset some readers, but I actually enjoy the quick readability of these volumes and wait with bated breath for each new installment! I love seeing how the Amish help each other through hardtimes and truly wish that we had more of that going on among my world, the world of the Englisch.
Do You like book The Silence Of Winter (2013)?
Part 2 started off a bit slow but then picked up. Anxious to read the rest of the books in the saga.
