About book The Shocking Secret Of A Guest At The Wedding (2014)
Victoria Alexander has been one my favorite authors since I read her Last Man Standing series several years ago. Her heroines always have such a wonderful and witty personality. Her heroes, well ... are heroic, swooping in to save the day.Lady Theodosia is head-strong, willing to discretely work hard to save her family from the awful embarrassment of being left penniless after her father's death. Fooled by her deceased fiancé, she's determined never to love again.Jackson Channing is a New York City banker, born and raised in America. When the father he'd always thought was dead suddenly arrives on his doorstep, he's faced with decisions he'd never imagined possible.Jackson is a true hero, stepping in to save Theodosia from an unwanted marriage proposal. A fake engagement unexpectedly becomes the perfect solution to both their problems. Until a spontaneous kiss changes everything. And maybe, just maybe neither one of them want the arrangement to remain fake. The Shocking Secret of a Guest at the Wedding is the fourth book in the Millworth Manor series, but it reads perfectly fine as a standalone. Victoria Alexander never disappoints and the holiday setting was an unexpected perk. I had a hard time putting it down, even when sleep or the day job required me to. Red Pump Romance Reviews gives it 4 1/2 Stars Jack is given the shock of his life when he walks into a room and finds a man claiming to be his father, a father that he had thought dead for his entire 30 years of life. His mother had conveniently chosen to keep his father a secret his entire life. So the staid banker goes completely against character and makes the impulsive decision to go with his newly found father to England. Having grown up in America his entire life, Jack is completely confused by everything English. When he meets a young woman named Teddy, he enlists her help to tell him about his father's country. Both are keeping secrets, and both have plans that might come in the way of romance.Despite the rather cheesy cover, I was looking forward to this book. The plot is fun. Who wouldn't love to find out they are in line for a title? The two main characters were a mixed bag for me. Jack had depth and a sense of humor. Teddy was annoying and made horrible decisions, tons of them. The secondary characters helped redeem this a little bit. The dialogue between the two main characters was very lengthy and detailed. I felt the author was trying to tell the majority of the story through the dialogue. And the ending was frustrating. But overall, looking back, it was a fun story and I'll try another book by this author since I did enjoy the plot so much.I received this book free of charge from Goodreads in exchange for my honest review.
