I don't know why, but every female character that Robert Jordan writes IS SO ANNOYING. Here I am citing specifically Nynaeve, Elayne, Selene (Lanfear) and most notably FAILE. Egwene, Min, and Moiraine are not much better...but they are better. I tried to think of why this might be. The main reasons are that they do not listen to reason, they are so stubborn, and they are distrusting of everyone. Plus, most of these girl characters are really the same people. Egwene, Min, and Elayne could probably be interchanged aside from their appearances and clothing preferences. Now, these characters are around the age of 18, so I am trying to remember this...but someone needs to knock some sense into them STAT.Another thing that became apparent to me was that males and females in this book do not understand each other even on the slightest level. It is all about manipulation and getting the opposite gender to do what you want. The only character who doesn't seem to do any of this is Moiraine. I'm saying this because, yes maybe I don't know everything about boys, and they do confuse me, but it is foolish to think I have spent my life living around them and I am still befuddled with every single thing they do...grr.I know I am all over the place here, and this review seems mostly bad...but I really did enjoy the book once people were less annoying (FAILE, I am looking at you.) It progresses the action of the series when Rand takes up the gauntlet and reveals himself further. His strength grows, and we get to meet the Aiel...(the female Aiel somehow are awesome). I also really like the prophecies that are set into place for Mat and Perrin as well. Nynaeve grows in strength and actually is pretty awesome at some points in the book.So I do enjoy this book, I just wish I could have edited out some of the ridiculous interactions between males and females.

Up to now, the series has been likable enough, but it really just felt like an extended prologue. The main story of the series finally seems to start here, and it shows. because this book is leaps and bounds better than previous entries in the series. The plot is kind of slow getting started, but once it starts rolling it progresses at a good pace, and comes to satisfying conclusions on all its fronts. While the first three books were enough to pique my interest, this entry made reading them worthwhile.
