This one was pretty good. It was one of the best books I read over the summer. As the story went on I wondered and wondered .....would things change? Would the father go to rehab? Would her mother go on a diet? Would Libby go into foster care because of her dad? How you know a book is good is if you wonder a lot, and I certainly did! The end was a little cheesy, but overall, great book. By cheesy,I just mean that if I had written the story, she may not have gotten her serious kiss. But the author did a totally great job on everything else, so this gets five stars! Hooray for the serious kiss! 14 year-old Libby hopes her 9th grade year will be the year she experiences her first serious kiss. Unfortunately, family problems soon overshadow all other aspects in her life. Her father’s alcoholism leads to his loss of job, the loss of their home, and the family being moved to another state. Libby is convinced this move has ruined her life but in this new place she gets to know a grandmother she never knew she had, makes new friends, and her family slowly starts to heal.I picked this book up as some light summer reading but was surprised by how attached I became to Libby and her story touched my heart.Favorite quotes: “I wanted to practice opening up instead of closing down.”“Even in the worst of times, there’s always something to be thankful for.”“[I’m thankful] For learning how to let go.”“Why have I wasted so much time worrying about what other people think?
