Great book. Wonderful sentence styling. Dreamlike experiences throughout. Truly felt transported.Discovered this book after reading another book by this author (A Sense of Shadows) which I really enjoyed. This book was incredible. I felt as though I truly experienced ancient Egypt and walked beside the main character, a teenage girl, the daughter of a Pharaoh who dies (thereby forcing the girl into a position of responsibility she's not yet ready for). The author does an amazing job of painting beautiful scenes where the scenery descriptions heighten the mood. The characters are all very vivid, believable, and easy to empathize with. I learned many things about ancient Egypt without ever feeling the weight of a lesson--the information was seamlessly woven into the story, masterfully done.Because the book is set in ancient Egypt, there were words I didn't immediately recognize. Normally, I would stubbornly stop reading long enough to look up each word. However, in this case, I didn't want to leave the story long enough to do that--it would have felt like waking up from a dream I was enjoying--so I allowed context to suggest what the words meant. Looking back, I'm happy I did it that way; I don't think I missed anything too critical by favoring the story experience over learning every new word I encountered. Because I took this approach, I was happy the author didn't stop and explain what every new word meant; it would have slowed the story to a crawl if she had. Definitely the best independently published book I have read so far, kudos to that!As for the story, it was enjoyable and it was rather refreshing to read the reasoning behind the author's decisions in the afterwords. I felt myself a little bit annoyed by the overwhelming amount of drama between the sister-wives. In my opinion the book could have done with less of that and a little more story revolving around other characters for a fifth star.
