About book The Secret Diary Of Lizzie Bennet (2014)
I loved the Lizzie Bennet Diaries. I marathoned them and finished them in just two days. I am a huge fan of Pride and Prejudice and Jane Austen. This book was decent.I think I just relate more to visual things than I do to reading, but the book had less of an emotional impact on me (though I still did choke up at 'no, my girl, no. It's not for you to be sorry') maybe it was just because I knew what was going to happen.I don't know. Reading this after watching the whole thing was just like summarizing everything that happened with more focus in some areas and a few new tidbits. I did enjoy it anyways. I would still recommend the web series over the book any day, but if you did like the series I would recommend the book.It was an easy read (esp. if you've watched the series) and didn't waste my time. I've always loved the show, so getting the book was mandatory. At first I thought I'd have to go back and watch it again because it was a while ago and I might not remember everything but I didn't need to. The book stands on its own and it can be read without watching the videos (but why wouldn't you, they're amazing). I love the world they built, I think the themes of Pride and Prejudice are timeless, because they're very human, and yes, times have changed so customs do too, but they way we interact and often misjudge people hasn't. What I've always liked in Lizzie was the fact, that even in her time, she didn't just take a proposal and run with it, but was a woman who wasn't afraid to say her mind even if it meant she would be alone, which she wasn't afraid either. This translates very well to our age, because sadly that hasn't changed much for women, we still get judged for that. Exploring those themes in our time and knowing it was the same 200 years ago was very interesting and the book gave a perspective the videos did not.Adding to that, the concerns about her future, her career and her family financial crisis, it's a book that speaks to every young person going through that phase where you're wondering what the hell to do with your life when you graduate. To every young girl. It's the reason the videos became so successful in the first place and LIzzie's diary just expands those concerns and leaves you thinking about your own future. It's a fun book that makes you think and cry at the same, which honestly, is the best kind of novel one could hope for.

Nice read as a companion to the series. I don't think it works as a stand alone novel though.

This book doesn't stand well on its own, but it is a good companion for the video diaries.
