About book The Runaway Mummy: A Petrifying Parody (2009)

This book could be great when using descriptive words. The author describes a lot of different settings throughout the story by using many different types of monster characters. This book would also be great for a child who has a difficult time reading/enjoying reading. It is a fun book with elaborate illustrations that captures the readers attention and makes them want to read more. It is also good for doing a picture walk to help get a sense for what is going on in the story. (ESOL) For me, most parody isn't as enjoyable as the original from which it was derived, but in the case of Michael Rex and his sincere humorous takeoffs from Margaret Wise Brown's classics, I think that these new "versions" are just as good as the first ones, albeit very, very different. Michael Rex's writing brings a smile to the face without ever taking any real jabs at Margaret Wise Brown or her story, "The Runaway Bunny", and I like that approach. It really shows that no harm is meant and the intended purpose of the book is not to denigrate the work of anyone else. So, I like this book and the way that it's constructed. I would likely give it one and a half stars, the same as I did for "The Runaway Bunny".

Do You like book The Runaway Mummy: A Petrifying Parody (2009)?

Meh. This story is about a mummy who says he will run away from his mommy. Didn't do much for me.

cute parody of Runaway Bunny with a nod to bunnies in the end of the story. Intricate pictures.

Runaway Bunny always held a certain ick factor for me, but I so enjoyed this colorful romp.

A wonderful take-off on "Runaway Bunny" by Margaret Wise Brown, with a creepy twist.

Since I've never read the runaway bunny it wasn't as funny as it could have been.
