I think I would have liked this better if it hadn't been first person POV. I had absolutely zero connection with Derek, and that frustrated me. He was a little too easy going and laid back, even for a guy with his sort of free spirit upbringing. He just.. went along with whatever Shane wanted, half smirking his way through the story. He didn't feel real, which is a shame, because I could have really liked him. I did like Shane, however. Though I thought it was sort of jarring how completely he cow towed to his parents, but was so forward with Derek. Mostly in the beginning, I guess. But then I guess we all try out our adult selves when we first get to college, right? He was a little selfish, a little oblivious, but I can't tell if that's because of the POV choice, or if that's just who Shane is. I guess this book just wasn't my favorite. I didn't connect with the sex scenes, or Derek, and while I admired Shane's developing ability to go for what he wants, it was all a little too "me, me, me" at the same time. I'll try the author again, for sure, but this particular story probably won't be a reread. This book had an interesting storyline that made this an engaging read. Two college boys rooming together who are not gay or even curious but are attracted to each other and so start a relationship. There is some BDSM thrown in, which is not my favorite but it wasn't too over the top so it didn't turn me off. I liked seeing how the relationship progressed between Shane and Derek as well as how Shane's relationship with his parents matured. (Even though Shane came across as a spoiled little boy a lot of the time!) All in all a solid book and I will read more by this author!
