About book The Road Of Lost Innocence: The True Story Of A Cambodian Heroine (2005)

I have been meaning to study about sex trafficking and its victims for some time, and this book was my breakthrough read. It was...horrifying. This book will break your heart. The way these CHILDREN are treated is indescribably cruel and disgusting. Somaly Mam's personal story reaches out and clutches your gut, and then she keeps twisting until, by the end of the book, you feel like you need to vomit. The capacity for human wickedness is mind-numbing, but we need to KNOW so we can work to CHANGE! This brave and compassionate woman is trying to shed light on an evil that is WORLDWIDE. This is not just a Southeast Asian problem, ladies and gentlemen - this is OUR problem. I'm going to continue to educate myself, and I'm so grateful Somaly Mam was brave enough to put her story to paper. I have struggled with my rating for this book. Without knowing that Somaly Mam has been accused of making up some of her background and some of the girls' stories, I would probably have rated this book a 4, perhaps a 5. The book is simply and compellingly written. Even with the possible inaccuracies, the book importantly draws attention to the hideous sex trade. However, I have dropped my rating significantly as the possible inaccuracies and concomitant media attention have drawn the attention from where it is needed on the sex trade to Somaly Mam's veracity.

Do You like book The Road Of Lost Innocence: The True Story Of A Cambodian Heroine (2005)?

So disappointed to Somaly. She made up the whole story and I still can not believe it.

Heartbreaking and eye opening. Difficult material but an important story to be told.
