About book The Rise Of Renegade X (2010)

Wow. I'm actually surprised at how good this book was. I was absolutely hooked almost immediately. So, what I noticed was that the book doesn't focus on descriptive writing. But it is ABSOLUTELY creative. The comparisons and euphemisms Chelsea uses is both humorous and creative. When I first heard about this book, i was all ugghhh it's going to be like a Sky High in a book. And that would suck, right? But I've never been so wrong. The book is mostly plot driven and character based and I love it!So, a 16 year old with superpowers who's a villan and has a superhero Dad.... how did it happen...? Awkward....Damien Locke is absolutely hilarious. But not in a stupid funny way, but more of like an evil, 16 year old and bluntly honest way. He is DEFINITELY my favorite character. He is a dynamic character, and it's so entertaining as well as interesting to see Damien change and mature in a way. You see that there ARE grey areas. Damien, an evil villan, wants to stop a big evil plan, though not because "it's just the right thing to do and he is a hero" but because he saw how the plan nearly killed him, his friend, and his ex girlfriend and family that he is starting to form a connection with. Sure it was for a selfish reason, but it was also unselfish in the way that he couldn't imagine anything that bad happen to anyone else. So even though this book has humor in it, I wouldn't classify it as humor since the humor wasn't the focus of the novel. It just made the characters seem more... human. And despite the humor, this book does have its share of morals and messages to communicate to the reader. Ok. I like romance. And there actually was just the right amount of romance in this novel. I LOVED it. And this is one of the very few books that I can say I loved every single part of. I have nothing bad to say about this book. All I can say is that Chelsea really impressed me. Congratulations Chelsea Campbell, you've written yourself a damn good book. FIVE STARS!!! One Sentence Review: One of the best, funniest books I've read in a while.Recommended for: Superhero/villain fans, or people looking for a hilarious, fast-paced story.I knew I was going to enjoy this book from the minute I read the cover blurb. A sixteen-year-old super villain with, ah, mixed parentage? It's like this book was written for me!And boy does Chelsea Campbell deliver. I was in love with Damien, the protagonist, from page one and could hardly put it down until I'd finished. The characters are all quirky and lovable (be they superheroes, super villains, or something else), the plot is original and action-packed. Not the twistiest plot you're every going to see, but fun nonetheless.Plus--the geekiness. One of the things I love about this book is that the humor matches my own so well. There were so many times I burst out laughing. More than almost any other book I've read, that's for sure. And at the same time, there were some really heart-warming (or occasionally heart-breaking) moments. Basically, the emotion in this novel is top-notch, so that wins big bonus points from me.I adore this book, hands down, and I think everyone should read it. (And did I see somewhere that this is #1 in a series? Yes, please!)
