Finding life after a "disaster," as described by protagonist Ben Benjamin, is no easy feat. It requires losing just about everything but one's hope that things will get better, that one can even become a better person. Some parts were difficult to read, given the number of obstacles Ben and his "patient, Trevor must overcome. Yet the big heart wins out in surprising ways. Not overly realistic but not maudlin either, this story acts as a fable for finding a way through terrible circumstances. This was one book I was sad to close. Not because I didn't enjoy the ending—which was just right—but because I didn't want to say goodbye to the characters. It was also one of the most well-written books I've read in the recent past. The story was heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. I laughed out loud and shed tears openly. I enjoyed it from the first page to the last. The author did a great job both on creating the story and as an artistic story teller. I'd definitely recommend this book!
Much better than a 3, but not quite a four. But a very amusing and poignant book.
