About book The Rebel Prince (2010)

Overall I enjoyed the series and feel that I have to give the series as a whole a 3.5. However, while this book was as engrossing as the last 2, the last chapter threw me. To spend 3 books in the head of only one character (which is the POV I least enjoy, I like to understand the minds of several characters to really grasp the story) and then suddenly and without warning to be shown the POV of a character that hadn't even been born during the last scene of the book threw me, I had to re-read it twice to understand. And, even that would not be terrible if that character just glossed over the major events in the story because of his age, and the poor reader has to guess and piece together the answers we have been waiting on throughout the main story line for. The third book in a trilogy - Wynter, Razi and Christopher have reached Alberon's camp (the titular rebel prince), and are horrified when they discover his plans. Also, Alberon is kind of awful (which makes him hard to reconcile with the Alberon of Wynter's memories). Anyway - shit goes down, basically. Our heroic trio try and dissuade Alberon from the political alliances he has made, and stop his plan to use the Machine. Things get tragic. There's an epilogue sent some years into the future (it's that kind of trilogy). I think I liked the earlier books better (before all the mysteries are all out in the open), but it's a very enjoyable trilogy in any case.
