About book The Pursuit Of Pleasure (2010)

This seemed like a good book, got a decent review on one of my favorite romance book sites, had a slightly unusual setup (both plotwise and geographically [not outside of England, but at least outside of London])... but was terrible. I got halfway. I disliked Jamie, who obviously had major ulterior motives (so OK, if you LOVE the girl so much, wait til after your Big Plan is over to marry her! It was like he wanted to have the cake and eat it too) and I was not fond of Lizzie either (meh, another "spunky" heroine who to me reads as petulant and stubborn and aggravating). The "childhood connection" seemed overhyped considering it was mentioned briefly a couple times and that's it. Considering they hadn't seen each other in 8 YEARS the instalust seemed excessive and I didn't buy into a love connection. Out-manipulating one another does not a marriage make, sorry. The authentic language (nautical and otherwise) and setup seemed accurate enough and kept me going for a while after I considered quitting, but in the end it wasn't enough to win me over. I just need more genuine connection/chemistry/sparks (whatever) in a couple than what I found here. I haven't read a true romance book in quite sometime, and this book satisfied me. I fell in love with Lizzie; she was smart, spunky, sexy and very independent. Jamie was her perfect match, able to keep up with Lizzie's wit while showing her she actually needed someone to depend on... So long as he was willing ti her be herself.I really went the gambit of emotions with book. Laughing with Jamie & Lizzie's banter with one another. Crying when they said goodbye. Suspicion of the employees if Glass Cottage. Schock at Jamie's reappearance. Of course betrayal when he left again. Happiness at their reunion. And finally peace when the secret was out, all were kept and Jamie and Lizzie finally admit their love for one another, continuing on HEA.As for the writing of this book, I some sections better than others. While I enjoy period details in a historical book, some scenes seemed to be to be too drawn out. There wre a couple of places I found myself dragging through and almost wanting to skip ahead.Overall, I enjoyed it. Watching Lizzie and Jamie learn more about themselves and one another, the suspense if a secret mission and some steamy romance made this a pretty good free read.

Pretty hot stuff. The story isn't exactly original but it's fun and well written.
