I like the way the author writes. I favour this sort of writing style. More readable and enjoyable. More adventurous and the best way to tell a fantasy story and other related genres. the plot wasn't bad too. in fact, the main reason why i got the book in the first place is that it kinda had a touch of Diana Wynne Jones' Howl's Moving Castle and some touch of Hayao Miyazaki's "Kiki's Delivery Service". And found them to be quite a good blend. I mean, I got that impression when I read the plot behind the book. the book didn't upset me at all once i was finished with the last page. but the plot line from the middle to the ending feels weird. like there's still so many things left unresolved. feels rushed like as if the author wasn't given enough pages to resolve and say 'this has happened because...'. but apart from that I think it's a good debut. author needs to work on her plots more, make sure they're solid enough from the start to the end and don't leave things halfway. i'll be keeping my eye on the sequel to this book. and the author's future works.i can't wait to see how great her future works would turn out to be. she'll certainly become a children's classic author some day. Buzzwords: baking, magic, following your dreams, sadness and its consequences, friendshipPoor Poppy. It's terrible to be misunderstood. Though this is a middle grade book and thus ends happily, with everything nicely wrapped up, it captures the feeling that some children may have of not being listened to, of being stifled and led in a different direction than they want to go, and the frustration, sadness, and anger that comes with that.
