About book The Outer Banks House (2010)

A bit juvenile in the writing style and soft porn sex scenes pop up and disorient the reader from time to time-they feel disingenuous and very editor driven. The main characters mother is mean all the way through until the end when she has a change in heart-also felt disingenuous. And the former slaves who witness the murder of their preacher are unnaturally willing to forgive. But it was an easy beach read and it was kind of fun to learn about OBX history while in the OBX. I thought this was a nice little historical fiction book set back a few years after the Civil War had ended in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. The Sinclair family comes from Edenton, N.C. to summer in the Outer Banks and the oldest daughter cannot get enough of the fresh salt air and the sound of the glorious waves crashing on the beach next to her small cottage. The Bankers, people from the Outer Banks, secretly make fun of the Edenton family saying that their house will soon fall in the water: it is built so close to the ocean. Mr. Sinclair hires a Banker to guide him in fishing and learning the waterways. Soon it becomes clear he has more in store for the Banker that he has hired. He also wants his daughter to tutor this guide--she is flabbergasted. Ladies of her "station" did not do such things as it was just not "proper". There is more to Mr. Sinclair than originally meets the eye. He is up to some evil doings as are a lot of the summer tourists. His own daughter gets caught right up in the middle of it all. This is definitely a Good Read..better than most!

Really enjoyed it. Never considered history on the Outer Banks before the Wright brothers.
