Another regency romance in my attempt to read outside my usual genres. It's the story of Isabelle who has been in love with James all her life and now asks him to marry her, which he refuses. But the Prince Regent wants her to marry - and James as well, and thus both set out to meet eligible marriage partners. The writing was good, I liked the main characters even though the motive of James wasn't as strong as I would have liked. I think I would have liked this book a lot more if I had read the other books in the series first. I didn't, thinking it was a stand alone novel, but it really wasn't. You get the main story lines, but the many characters become really confusing if you haven't read the previous installments in the same series. So the two stars are because I want to be honest, but I'm sure it would have been three if not four stars had I written the other books. I love the premise of this series so I gave it a 4, but I found parts just annoying. James dithering began to wear on me. I loved Isabel, a Duchess at 18, commanded by Prinny to marry, wanting to marry the man she loves. But he has many strictures and tries to obey all the stupid death wishes he has been told. They are dea for goodness sakes, go with your heart I keep yelling at him!! Many of the plot points from the previous 3 stories were tied together, so I don't know if this is the last in the series. I lost track of how many of the Dukes actually are married at the end. The happy ending finally came after 2 more aggravating chapters!! Hope Calliope gets her own book!!
