I really tried to finish this book, but it just couldn't. It is written beautifully; the imagery is great, but there are too many characters with clashing personalities. Plus, each character has their own snippet of a different story, so the point of view changes at least four times per chapter. Honestly, it had potential, but I think Ms. Fisher just tried to add too much and it ended up all In a jumble which is difficult to follow. More than halfway through in still had no idea where the plot was going, and I decided my time was better spent in other books. Books about time travel always mess with my head. If someone goes back in time, and events are changed because of it, how do they exist in the future to be able to go back in time? Anyway, Catherine Fisher writes great fantasy, and this first book of the planned trilogy did not disappoint. It was creepy, mysterious, and adventurous. A fun read, and a great choice for our NH Isinglass nominees.
