About book The Murder Complex (2014)

Meadow has been raised to survive. In the Shallows that's quite a feat. Zephyr spends his days picking up bodies, cleaning the city of the murdered every evening, but he's fighting inner demons that he doesn't understand. He dreams of a silver haired girl who turns out to be Meadow. What could have been just another young adult dystopian trilogy (speculation since this is only book 1 and book 2 doesn't come out until April) is actually a pretty exciting survival/adventure story. Meadow and Zephyr are interesting characters, clever and smart. As they unravel the story behind the murders, Meadow's mother's death, and why Zephyr has these blackouts, they grow closer together. The tension builds to a violent and even surprising end that leaves the reader in shock anxiously awaiting book 2. Oh my god. The feels are just there. Firstly, I started off extremely confused. Like seriously, the world is screwed up and complicated. Why was murdering allowed was the biggest question in my head. Honestly, this book did not get on my excited nerve until pg150.After pg150, I was done. This book got me totally hooked up right till the end.Meadow. I kinda like her. She's really like this killing machine who kill's someone without much consideration. If she develops the thought to kill you, just stick your head between your knees and kiss it goodbye. I guess it's just the world that made her that way, she didn't exactly have a choice. Meadow don't really show much emotions, her most common expression would be the let-me-stab-you-with-a-knife expression. I find her love for her family really commendable.Zephyr is like this innocent boy. He doesn't want to kill anybody. Also, he is a Ward, I took some time getting used to what Wards do. Their lifes are a little weird. And I'm not kidding about the innocent part at all, he is too innocent for his own good.Talan is also a Ward. I was starting to like her. She's just this really nice. friend willing to do anything to help Zephyr. Where Zephyr prefers steering clear of trouble, she's the exact opposite.John Woodson is Meadow's father who don't show much emotions at all. It's as if he's just a machine. All his life, he just cares about training and training AND training. I'm not even sure how deep his love goes to his family because sometimes he seems like he cares but other times not at all.The Initiative is stupid. A load of bastards, selfish and heartless. They are the ones who very much deserves to be killed.Leeches are more like soldiers from a war, who thinks killing is teaching a lesson to serve as a show for others. As if the whole damn world owed them their lifes.Everyone in this world lives a lie. They think they are safe, they think the city protects them. But the whole thing is a lie. I wasn't really into the book until pg150. It's where everything starts getting twisted and unexpected. Where the whole truth starts unfolding. Some parts of the book is rather cliche. Especially the romance, it makes some parts sort of awkward. Some chapters were really short, like two pages long, I would have liked to stay in their perspective a bit longer. Other than that, the book is an extremely thrilling read. I found out how the world was more screwed up then it really seemed and some people are really even more screwed up then the system. Some things don't make sense in the book. The author talks about how frail a certain person is, almost too weak to move. The next second she's up, holding a gun and charging away. Like the author forgot the situation the person was facing. Well, that's a HUGE flaw honestly. But if you can ignore it, the book is awesome. This book contains jerks and bitches, one of those you'll discover at the end. A really exciting read, I recommend! Can't wait for the next book!
