Interesting book. Inventive story line, and artfully written. On the border edge of "bizarre," in some respects, but not in an off-putting or unpleasant way. Both I and the children enjoyed it. A pretty fast read, as well, which is a plus. Need to check out Kelly Barnhill's more recent book now, "Iron Hearted Violet." And I wonder if there will someday be a sequel to "The Mostly True Story of Jack." If so, I'm sure we'll want to read it, too. ahhh... that was BORING. I didn't enjoy this book, although it seemed promising in the first few pages, it didn't after the end of the second chapter, the writing made me just wanting be done with the whole thing as soon as I can, the author wanted to be mysterious and keep the element of surprise till the end, but i think she waited for longer than she was supposed to, that there was no surprise and the moment passed,and I felt as if she was struggling too much to put magic and extra twits here and there that eventually lead to no where,and with the pets, and this Mr.Perkins, there was really no need for them, their existence didn't add to story at all,there was "MAYBE" a good idea between the pages,and a thought passed my mind that it might have worked as a family movie or something, but as a novel it was not told well or was it captivating at all.the first time that the name JACK was in a story with no REAL magic between the pages.

Oh my word I hated this book. Such a strange odd tale. I can't say I enjoyed this. AT ALL.
