About book The Migraine Brain: Your Breakthrough Guide To Fewer Headaches, Better Health (2008)

This book was recommended to me by the doctor who initially diagnosed me with Chronic Migraine. I didn't know A THING about what that diagnosis meant for me, other than the symptoms I was seeking to heal myself of.Reading this book was so helpful and really gave me a much better understanding of my brain and how it works as a migraine brain! I return back to it as a reference. Very recommended read to anyone seeking more information about what is going on inside a migraine brain! It was a very useful book about migraines and though I didn't learn any revolutionary new info I did learn a few things about drugs I didn't know about and some new ideas of how to prevent, abort and rescue a migraine attack. The main benefit I got is reinforcement to things I am already doing, especially things I have to do that get a negative response from others, like insisting of having my own quiet place while traveling instead of sleeping at other people's houses, asking for people not to smoke around me even in open spaces, not filling the gas in my car myself and more, the books says again and again that these are not self indulgent but necessary health requirements, just like someone with asthma avoiding what can cause an asthma attack. It was reassuring and gave me more confidence to get what I need for my health without feeling guilty.I was also hoping to get explanations about what happens in the brain during a migraine attack but the explanations were very shallow and didn't satisfy my curiosity. It is more a self-help book than a scientific book. The doctor who wrote the book is all bout healthy lifestyle and using alternative medicine. It is always good to see such approach from a conventional doctor. However I was interested in one kind of alternative medicine (Bio-Identical Hormones) and the author just mentioned it once, along with other alternative methods she does not recommend, without explaining why.
