So much potential wasted. This book has some wonderful worldbuilding laying around in the background: a mysterious Wyrdwood, misunderstood witches vs. society magicians, the varying spands of days and nights, excellent tone in the beginning...but all for naught! Not too far in it turns into a hot mess, then it decides that it wants to be Jane Eyre With Magic, and the entire book just goes to shit. A real disappointment. Definite echoes of Austen and Bronte but the plot in this book is influenced by them rather than a direct knock off. The division in to three parts, with a different style in each is a little awkward. Also, there is an awful lot of moving parts and they don't always mesh as well as they might. An ambitious book which the author very nearly pulls off. Excellent for a debut novel. Overall I found it charming. I've bought both of the next books in this series.
Do You like book The Magicians And Mrs. Quent (2008)?
I did not really like this book. It went on and on and in the end was not worth the time.
