About book The Madness Of Lord Ian MacKenzie (2009)
This is a fairly decent romance, with an action packed plot and some awkward erotic moments. Lord Ian Mackenzie is "mad", suffering from rages and dealing with social impairments that would place him on the autism spectrum today. Of course, at the time this story is set, autism hadn't yet been named. As a result of his disorder, Ian is not a stereotypical romance novel hero. I did feel that the book suffered a bit for the lack of witty banter between the characters. The love scenes also felt awkward and impersonal. I found the second half of the story much more exciting, when the focus shifted from a budding romance to a murder mystery. I also liked the resolution of the murder plot. I wouldn't tell anyone to go out of their way to read this, but if book is easily available, then enjoy. My very first Jennifer Ashley read and I am thrilled to find another author whose work is amazing. I completely enjoy reading Ian and Beth's story. It was heart wrenching to learn what Ian suffered. To watch him emerge from his cocoon with Beth's acceptance and love was almost magical. The widow Beth is saved from making a bad marriage choice by Ian. After meeting, the attraction between the two is hard to ignore. Ian's unique way of looking at the world and interacting with it did not put Beth off. She accepted him for who he is and never asked him to be anything else. That made this book special. Beth's easy acceptance of Ian. Her ability to look past his eccentricities and see the amazing soul beneath. If only there were more Beth's in the world...what an amazing place it would be. I cannot wait to read about the rest of the Mackenzie clan. I know they will all be very entertaining!
