A good read. The background is well-researched and fascinating, but as far-fetched as the Hangman's Daughter series sometimes seemed, this one stretched the bounds of credulity. Nevertheless, it gets into wonderful details about Ludwig's life and times, and many of the questions and mystery's that surround his life and death. For someone who have visited Neuschwanstein or other of his castles in Bavaria, it's very fun. * Summary- In 1886, Ludwig II, the fairytale king of Bavaria, was deposed after being declared insane by doctors who had never met him. He died mysteriously soon thereafter, his eccentric and beautiful castles his only legacy. When an encoded diary by one of Ludwig’s confidants falls into the hands of rare book dealer Steven Lukas, he soon realizes that the diary may bring him more misery than money. Others want the diary as well—and they will kill to get it. Believing the diary to contain the secret truth behind Ludwig’s death, Steven and the detective Sara Lengfeld go on the run, investigating each of Ludwig’s three famous castles for clues. Just what in the diary could be so explosive that Ludwig's deranged modern-day followers will do whatever it takes to keep it hidden?* My Review- I really liked this book. It did take me off on a little side research project to study up on Ludwig II, but I am a history nerd so it was a fun tangent. This reminded me a tiny bit of the DaVinci Code... young intellect, cute girl digging up secrets from the past in old architecture and art.

Didn't love it. Predictable and lacking in a interesting literary voice.
