About book The Lonesome Young (2014)

I loved the book. The characters were all so vivid that it was easy to tell them all apart. In some books, the characters act and speak so much alike, sometimes you have to flip back to see who's speaking, but that wasn't an issue here. I thought the setting was well described and the pacing fantastic. The only thing I would have liked a little different is the ending. I would have preferred for it to be more drawn out. But overall, I would highly recommend this book because it has a very unique plot that makes it stand out. The other day I wanted to read something light before falling asleep and I saw this on my never ending to-read pile. As the blurb says, this is a Romeo and Juliet meets Justified sort of story. Cheesy romance/retelling of a classic? Why not, let's give it a go, my brain said.To be honest, I've never really been a fan of insta-love. I find it too unrealistic, but somehow I enjoyed it in this particular book. It's like..there were no pretensions at all, from the first time they meet, the protagonists admit that they feel this sort of pull towards each other. I guess I can appreciate that, when compared to other stories where they try and deny it right off the bat even when it's freaking obvious that insta-love has occurred. XD Of course, there's a lot of denying later on, and considerable angst and shit. Lol.If there's one thing I did not enjoy, it was the feud between the families. It was pretty frustrating. I feel it was written a bit poorly, like there's all this ~mystery surrounding the families, filled with warnings about the protagonists staying away from each other because their family is bad news, etc etc etc and yet no one will explain! Really people, if want someone to avoid another person, tell them why! One character finally explains how they suspect the other family murdered so-and-so, but the feud started because of other horrible things that occurred way before that event and....they never really say how it all started. What could be worse than murder? I think they should've just made that the main reason instead. The ending was pretty...disappointing as well. It's like the author felt lazy and decided to just leave it as an open ending of sorts. I wish there was some sort of...justice or something regarding the antagonists, particularly Anna Mae. :| The story is very predictable, but nevertheless a good read if you don't really expect much. It's not the kind of book that has ~deep meanings and stuff. I guess I'd consider it as just one of those chick lit type of books you wanna enjoy sometimes. I'll confess that I stayed up late to finish it, lol. It starts out a bit slow but becomes fast-paced and some of the characters are interesting. Might be worth a tiny bit of your time. Lol
