About book The Light Of Asteria: Kailmeyra's Last Hope (2000)

Nora is not your average young lady. She has a sad past and is very loyal to her friends. She is staying home from college to help out her aging foster mother. She is a wonderful girl who cares deeply. She helps her two friends move into the dorms when she literally bumps into a young man who she feels an instant connection to. It doesn't take long until he becomes her focus. The great thing is that he is just as interested in her. This takes the story into a fantasy realm. There is danger, good vs. evil, love, friendship, and self discovery. One of the qualifications for a book to receive a 5 star rating from me is that I can't put it down. This book filled that requirement. When I was about 3/4 of the way through I went to Amazon and downloaded the second book.I can't wait to find out what happens next. This book is suitable for teens on up who can handle some intense kissing and violence. This story is so much more than a YA story. It's about intent. Living your best life with the best intent. The main character, Nora, is one of the kindest and purest characters I've read in a long time, and yet I could still relate to her. Her life wasn't easy, abandoned by her father to live in foster care with Edna. The good thing is Edna loved her. When her two closest friends go away to college, Nora stays home to care for Edna and go to the community college. BUT while visiting her friends, she meets Gavin. Now Gavin is an interesting character. He's mysterious and attractive of course, but there is a darker side to him. I liked him, and the chemistry between them is intense. He was constantly surprising me with his choices. The author handled their physical relationship with grace, but didn't turn down the heat. I look forward to reading more. If I would describe this story in one word, it would be a fairytale. I could visualize everything so well. I love how descriptive the author was with the settings, both here on earth and in Gavin's home. So beautiful and lovely. But it's the morality in the story that I'll remember the most. Forgiveness and intent. The characters struggle to come to terms with their past, and learn to forgive themselves, as well as the people who have wronged them in the past. Nora also learns early on, that her intent is what will guide her to her best future with Gavin. I am curious to find out if Gavin will be able to do the same.
