About book The Last Rhinos: My Battle To Save One Of The World's Greatest Creatures (2012)
Not just a wonderful book about one man's efforts to save the black rhino from extinction, but his side involvement with the Lord's Resistance Army in the DRC. This part of the book really sheds light on the rebels and proves there are two sides to every story. The sad part is that the author died of a heart attack 2 years ago at age 61, so this is likely the last of his personal stories. His family now carry on with his conservation efforts at his wildlife refuge in Africa. Gobsmacked. Not only do I need to use this word more frequently in my conversation as the author does but it was the feeling I had when I realized that the Northern White Rhinos are probably extinct in the wild. Despite Lawrence Anthony's attempts to save them, the world just stood by and let the poachers win. I don't remember hearing anything about this in the news and that saddens me. In Anthony's dealings, I learned an entirely different perspective of the LRA (the Lord's Resistance Army). In his efforts to save the rhinos from the poachers, Anthony was thrust right into the middle of serious political events in the Congo with the LRA. I'm am sad to hear that Anthony died in 2012. The world needs more people like him to fight for the protection of our endangered animals.

A gut wrenching yet heart warming tale of conservation in Africa.
