About book The Last Man On Earth (2014)

I'm not a harsh reviewer. There are only two circumstances that result in review:1) The book is monumentally amazing.2) The book is monumentally disastrous.Alas, this book has warranted a third circumstance, 3) When a book has wonderful cover art, a great blurb and a fabulous first chapter yet disappoints you...I absolutely loved the first chapter of this book. The protagonist was both witty and strong-willed;two characteristics lacked by many characters in this genre. Complexity, spots as Margaret Atwood would call them, make female characters great. This character lacked spots. She lacked a complexity and a deeper story line that would've propelled this story one step further. There is a fine line between melodrama and captivation but it can be done. These character's deserved it. I also found that some of the characters were irrelevant to the story line. I understand that Warren might have been setting up a series but it's important to make sure that each story is as strong as the next. On a happier note, here are some things I enjoyed:1) The pace - the story progressed well. 2) Brie - she was a welcome relief 3) I generally just enjoyed the writing itself. Warren has great flair. It's not necessarily a bad book. It was just sold short by bad character development. This contemporary romance takes place in the fast-paced, cutthroat, competitive world of commercial advertising. One man, one woman, in a constant battle of one-upmanship to land the big account. They don’t like each other, but they lust after one another, and an innocent New Year’s Eve kiss changes everything. The fuse is the lit for a sizzling affair that threatens to destroy them both. This story is filled with secrets, revelations and betrayal. Evenly paced, well written and with characters that are totally believable. An excellent read for those who want to feel their heart beat faster and don’t mind a little dampness on your thighs.

I am not big on corporate themed books but really enjoyed this one.

If you imagine the book was written in 1985, it works beautifully.
