This is only the second John Nance book I’ve read. Although it wasn’t as good as the other one, it was still a great, enjoyable, exciting thrill ride. The previous Nance book I read was ‘Pandora’s Clock’ which was one of the most intense, riveting novels I’ve read in recent years. Although ‘The Last Hostage’ can’t match that one, it is darn good in its own right. The story moves along with many twists and turns. It’s enjoyable, exciting and very entertaining. I’d give this a 5 if it wasn’t for 2 minor things:1) In Pandora’s Clock, the author included many passengers from the plane. It read like a throw-back to those disaster movies from the 70’s—Earthquake, Towering Inferno, Poseidon Adventure and yes, the Airport films. In ‘The Last Hostage,’ there was no connection to any of the passengers. With a few exceptions, they were ‘just there.’2) I sometimes felt the dialogue was a bit…off. Sometimes it appeared like the words used by a professional airline pilot or FBI agent seemed a bit---unbelievable.Still, it was an excellent book. I strongly recommend it.
